Barjche 2017:  Threads

What: Barjche, (pronounced bar-Shay) Iowa State University’s annual modern dance concert, was first created in 1946 by three Iowa State students, Barbara, Jean and Charlotte. The founding members of ISU’s dance club Orchesis wanted to create a modern dance concert.  Since that time, Barjche has been produced annually by the Orchesis I dance company.

Threads is a contemporary modern dance production with multiple pieces by different student choreographers, alumni, faculty and guests looking at the kinds of connection we have with others.  In the words of Sherry Turkle, “ As we expect more from technology, do we expect less from each other?  How are devices and online personas redefining human connection.”  Some of the dances will be abstract leaving the audience open to interpreting while others will be more literal.

Where: Fisher Theater at the Iowa State Center

Who: This year Barjche includes a special  work with 15 alumni performing in honor of a former faculty member, as well as works by Barjche Artistic Director Cynthia Adams (ISU faculty and FTPG),  and members and alumni of Orchesis 1.
